Я U READY 4 ELEPHANT ROOM 3?

Apprising Ministries had pointed out to you that the Elephant Room 2, hosted jointly by now former Gospel Coalition members, James MacDonald and Mark Driscoll, detonated as an explosion within evangelicalism and the aftermath continued spreading shockwaves for some time.

There’s little doubt that as a result of this ill-fated ER2, particularly in its mainstreaming of Word Faith mogul T.D. Jakes, we’ve now seen some rather large cracks within The Gospel Coalition, Driscoll’s own Acts 29 Network, and even within MacDonald’s Harvest Bible Fellowship.

There was some real speculation that ER2 was the end of this spiritually sordid experiment; but alas, not so. Today James MacDonald told us there there will indeed be Elephant Room 3 via this tweet:

Christian Research Network associate editor Erin Benziger adds:

James MacDonald, pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel and co-moderator of the controversial Elephant Room events, announced today via Twitter that the much-anticipated “ER3″ is indeed forthcoming… The second Elephant Room event, which took place in January of this year, generated much controversy. Most of this centered around the inclusion of Word Faith prosperity preacher and alleged modalist, T.D. Jakes.

Critics of the event rightly argued that Mark Driscoll’s questioning of Jakes on matters relating to the Trinity was insufficient to prove that Jakes holds to a biblically orthodox understanding of the doctrine. Further, many continue to be concerned by the growing acceptance of Jakes and his Word Faith teachings by mainstream, evangelical Christianity. No doubt many will be eagerly waiting to see who is invited to participate in this third Elephant Room conversation. (source)

As I told you in Prophet-Leader Craig Groescel And An Evangelical Gangsta’s Paradise, 1) T.D. Jakes was lobbed softball questions that allowed him to essentially say he’s a trinitarian-modalist and 2) the two previous ERs have given rise to what appears to be a new ecumenical evangelical magisterium.

Like interlocking concentric circles we’ve seen the same names now appearing over and over again at each others’ revivals and conferences. However, the wording of James MacDonald’s tweet today would seem to indicate that ER3 isn’t likely generate anywhere near the interest of, say, Elephant Room 2.

Rather, it reads like ER3’s likely to be a snooze-fest. Unless of course they decide to invite some of the pastors who left Acts 29 and Harvest Bible Fellowship over ER2. Not likely. In closing this, for now, I leave you with Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough of Pirate Christian Radio and some of his coverage of ER2.
