CHRISTIANITY TODAY ON THE “ATTACK DOGS OF CHRISTENDOM”

Ingrid Schlueter over at Slice of Laodicea has commented on David Aikman’s article in the August edition of Christianity Astray Today called “Attack Dogs of Christendom,” which they posted online yesterday:

I had to laugh today after reading the now online version of CT’s “Attack Dogs” article. The first lesson that CT editors need to learn is that when complaining about unkind Christian bloggers, it probably isn’t a good idea to call them names. Attack dogs, eh? I had to further chuckle today when I saw their online poll with the headline: Should Christians criticize each other in public forums? CT had better hope that the answer is yes or their Attack Dog article is going to look pretty doggone silly.

Well hey, at least it’s a step up from my “brother” Dan Kimball who referred to me as a “watch poodle.” David Cloud of Way of Life was also singled out in this attack piece by Aikman. Cloud said:

The August 2007 issue of Christianity Today contains a cheap shot aimed at Way of Life Literature in particular and biblical warning ministries in general.

(CT also used Apprising Ministries as an example of its thesis. I am not personally familiar with this ministry and I do not know its writers, but I understand that they are Southern Baptists. I checked out the web site and they warn about such things as the Emerging Church, New Evangelicalism, Harry Potter, Romanism, and the Rick Warren-style Church Growth movement, and the reports appear to be well documented and biblically informed.

I do not know wherein we might disagree doctrinally, but I do know that this is powerful stuff from Southern Baptist pens and I pray that their tribe may increase mightily and that plain spoken preaching against sin and error will spread throughout the SBC!)

One self-appointed new evangelical watcher of the watchdoggies site CRN.(Mis)Info? has speculated today that we’re feeling the heat. O right; exactly what is Christianity Today maladroitly masquerading as a Christian publication going to do? Whine louder, stomp their figurative feet and hold their breath?

I’ll have more to say on this later but be forewarned, as I told you yesterday, the American Christian Church is right now in the midst of a spiritual Civil War and there has never been a war with no casualties. Twenty years ago Dr. Walter Martin was absolutely dead on target when he said: “Anyone who doesn’t know that the Church in the United States is in full blown apostasy does not know their Bible.”
