LINDISFARNE COMMUNITY: THE EMERGENT NEW MONASTICISM OF ROMISH BONDAGE

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? (Galatians 3:1-3)

Back To The Chains Of A Roman Catholic Future

At their website under the heading Welcome to the Lindisfarne Community we’re told:

The Lindisfarne Community is a network of people, communities, churches and groups committed to the “new monasticism.” Our mother house is in Ithaca, NY . We have professed members, novices and enquirers in several US States, the UK, New Zealand and South Korea.

We are committed to following Christ in a balanced life of prayer, study, service and rest . . . . a new form of monasticism. We are relational, egalitarian, charismatic, sacramental and inclusive. (Online source)

Welcome to the future faith of what Emergent Pastor Dan Kimball calls “Vintage Christianity,” a new evangelical religion emerging right back into the religious bondage and superstition of the apostate Church of Rome. And all they’ve had to do to show their man-love is to put everything that was ever even remotely considered “Christian” into the spiritual blender:

We have embraced emphases from, among others, the Celtic Christian communities of the fourth to ninth centuries in Northern Britain and Ireland; the desert fathers and mothers and the early monastic movement; the Christian mystics; the radicals of the sixteenth century; the charismatic, Christian feminist and home church movements of the twentieth. Really nothing to it for the Ecumenical Church of Deceit, the duplicitous daughter of the Roman Catholic Church who has been doing that herself for centuries. Swallow up all other religions and make them her own following the footsteps of unfaithful Israel. You need to remember that the chosen people of God, and Israel had “human sovereignty” how; were specifically called by the LORD God Almighty to be a holy people–set apart from the world–and told not to mix pagan practices into His prescribed worship.

The same is true for the Church of Jesus Christ, and by the way these “called out” ones are also to be holy, But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God (1 Peter 2:9) O, but these “Christ-followers” think they have a better way. Yet the Bible tells the Christian – Dear children, keep yourselves from idols (1 John 5:21). But groups like Lindisfarne Community, with their warmed over Roman Catholicism, have now become Emergent even within so-called “Protestant” $evangelicalism$ and would have us return to practices which would cause the Reformation in the first place.

This is a good place to leave you with these salient words from Martin Luther [Emergent reality check: former monk] as quoted by fellow contributor at Christian Research Net Mike Ratliff in his piece Idolatry:

Idolatry is all manner of seeming holiness and worshipping, let these counterfeit spiritualities shine outwardly as glorious and fair as they may; in a word, all manner of devotion in those that we would serve God without Christ the Mediator, his Word and command. In popedom it was held a work of the greatest sanctity for the monks to sit in their cells and meditate of God, and of his wonderful works; to be kindled with zeal, kneeling on their knees, praying, and having their imaginary contemplations of celestial objects, with such supposed devotion, that they wept for joy.

In these their conceits, they banished all desires and thoughts of women, and what else is temporal and evanescent. They seemed to meditate only of God, and of his wonderful works. Yet all these seeming holy actions of devotion, which the wit and wisdom of man holds to be angelical sanctity, are nothing else but works of the flesh. All manner of religion, where people serve God without his Word and command, is simply idolatry, and the more holy and spiritual such a religion seems, the more hurtful and venomous it is; for it leads people away from the faith of Christ, and makes them rely and depend upon their own strength, works, and righteousness.

In like manner, all kinds of orders of monks, fasts, prayers, hairy shirts, the austerities of the Capuchins, who in popedome are held to be the most holy of all, are mere works of the flesh; for the monks hold they are holy, and shall be saved, not through Christ, whom they view as a severe and angry judge, but through the rules of their order.

No man can make the papists believe that the private mass is the greatest blaspheming of God, and the highest idolatry upon earth, an abomination the like to which has never been in Christendom since the time of the apostles; for they are blinded and hardened therein, so that their understanding and knowledge of God, and of all divine matters, is perverted and erroneous. They hold that to be the most upright and greatest service of God, which, in truth, is the greatest and most abominable idolatry.

And again, they hold that for idolatry which, in truth, is the upright and most acceptable service of God, the acknowledging Christ, and believing in him. But we that truly believe in Christ, and are of his mind, we, God be praised, know and judge all things; but are judged of no human creature. – Martin Luther (Online source)

And Ratliff is so right when he says, “Man-made religion is idolatry.” Not pure and not so simple. This is just another means for Satan to put something in the way of Jesus Christ. Wake up and see it for what it is.
