Taking A Page From Brian Warner

The next big tour for Emergent Church communicator and Pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church Rob Bell as he promotes his new book Sex God all kicks off in The Power Center at the University of Michigan February 8. According to the website Sex God Tour.com the doors will open at 7pm; there will be a Q&A session with Rob at 8pm, this followed by a showing of “Nooma 15” at 9pm and then a book signing. Presumably one will have to purchase said book.

At the above site you can even download an excerpt from the book which includes chapter one God Wears Lipstick. Anyway, I guess we should be thankful that Rob Bell is willing to continue making these huge sacrifices in order to preserve the Church from the excesses of evangelicalism. After all not long ago Bell even preched a whole series on how Jesus allegedly wants to save Christians. From what you ask? Well, from people who would dare use Christianity as a marketing vehicle for one.

I do feel I have to tell you that all of this simply reminds me of Brian Warner. You see Warner, aka Marilyn Manson, was another counterculture icon who also preached down with the establishment. But just the same as counterculture rock stars would sell out one by one to “big brother” as the idealistic 60’s rolled into the 70’s so it would sure seem that these new anti-establishment icons also have no problem doing the “book tour thing” when it serves their own purposes. At least this is how it appears to me here at Apprising Ministries.
