OUTLAW PREACHERS ARE WRONG CONCERNING SOLA SCRIPTURA

Today Andrew (Drew) Tatusko Tweets:

@dtatusko: our authority comes not from scripture alone, but from the risen christ. #outlawpreachers #badpresbyterian (Online source)

You may recall that Apprising Ministries introduced you to Tatusko, who has just enough formal education to confuse himself, in Jay Bakker, Radical Love, And Homosexuality when he made the following stupid statement:

Well, Tatusko’s Tweet has the largely Biblically illiterate group who’ve crowned themselves outlaw preachers now sprouting up around head Outlaw gay affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker, all in a tizzy.

They’ve been ReTweeting it as if there’s some divide between Jesus—the Living Word of God—and the text of Holy Scripture—the written Word of God. And this is because all false prophets and teachers must first attempt to circumvent the Bible in order to advance their myths.

So here I’ll give you a quick Biblical line of reasoning to put this foolish postmodern/Emerging Church argument to rest. First, it’s unmistakable that the word Scripture means something spoken by God Himself:

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Now, as I just told a dear friend of mine on the phone, you’re free to disagree with the above; however, this is what the Bible claims for itself: Scripture is breathed i.e. created by God. Not some; but, all of it, is from God through His guidance of His human writers (see—2 Peter 1:20-21).

Secondly, it’s inescapable in the New Testment eyewitness record found in the Gospels that Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be God in human flesh. One quick example is found in John 8:24, where the literal Greek records Jesus as saying:

I said therefore to you that, you will die in your sins unless you believe that I Am, you will die in your sins.

In other words, above Jesus has said unless one believes He is the LORD God Almighty Who spoke from the burning bush to Moses, then you are still here in John 3:36 — whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

My point being that if Jesus is God, then when Christ speaks, God speaks; or conversely, when God speaks, Jesus speaks. You need to know that only those who have some reason why they wish to do away with the final authority of Scripture i.e. God’s Word will deny that Sola Scriptura is inherent within e.g. 2 Timothy 3:16.

Now, I have no way to know why someone like Drew Tatusko wants to work to make people think Sola Scriptura is somehow in opposition to Jesus; however, I can judge that his reasoning is fatally fallacious spiritually. Consider the following:

I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your Name for Your love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your Name and Your Word. (Psalm 138:2)

Note above that inspired Scripture—God’s Word—tells us the Lord has exalted above all things His Name (means power and authority) and His Word i.e. the Bible. Here then we find Sola Scriptura; above all things would be God’s authority, which He Himself equates with His Word.

So as pious as Drew Tatusko’s dream sounds, the Risen Christ—the Lord God Almighty Who’s placed His authority and His Word above all things—Himself, as recordedin the eyewitness deposition of the Apostle Matthew, has told us in no uncertain terms:

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)

And finally we consider what God told us when He faced down Satan in the flesh — Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'” (Matthew 4:4). Bottom line: The Risen Christ has just told us our authority comes from Scripture alone.
