ROB BELL HITS LEXINGTON AND A PACKED OUT HOUSE

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths (2 Timothy 4:3-4, ESV)

Not Grasping The Actual Task Ahead Of Us

A friend noted and even though it’s from almost a month ago it does serves a couple of purposes. As one who has written much about Emergent Church Pastor Rob Bell here at Apprising Ministries let me point out a couple of things about what Dr. Ben Witherington says in his post.

1) This is the typical type evangelical apologetic that does it’s best not to offend an audience. However, I tell you in the Lord that God grows weary of this approach and time is of the essence as this apostasy spreads throughout Christ’s Church like an Oklahoma wildfire (thanks Mike Ratliff).

And 2) by the following comment, just the same as most evangelical scholars, Witherington demonstrates to me that he doesn’t really understand men like Rob Bell of this Emergent rebellion against the Bible are about.

For you see, what he asks below is the very thing those following this new cult of liberal theology in the Emergent Church refuse to do in the first place. In other words, it isn’t going to happen and all “positive” looks in the world won’t change the fact that Hollow Men like Erwin McManus and Brian McLaren and Rob Bell are spewing spiritual cyanide:

[Rob Bell] needs to commit himself to studying more carefully the Bible in its proper contexts so that he will avoid needless off hand comments that reflect a lack of understanding of God’s Word. And above all he must not fall into the trap of so identifying with the culture he is trying to reach, that instead of actually critiquing that culture from a Biblical point of view, he baptizes certain prevailing cultural values and calls them good, and even mistakes them for Biblical values.
