DAN KIMBALL AND THE EMERGENT CHURCH SEEKING HARD TO MAKE HOMOSEXUAL SIN NOT SIN

He sent darkness and made the land dark–for had they not rebelled against His Words?  (Psalm 105:28)

“Oh How Badly I Want Homosexuality To Not Be A Sin!”

In his emerging sinner sensitive treatise They Like [A] Jesus But Not The Church (TLJ) Dan Kimball, well-known pastor in the postliberal cult of the Emergent Church, puckers up and opines about the sin of homosexuality. Kimball says, “Because this is such a huge issue in our culture,…we can no longer just regurgitate what we have been taught about homosexuality” (137). So In TLJ Dan Kimball, whom evangelical leaders continue to tout as orthodox. This despite Kimball’s acceptance of apostate Roman Catholicism as genuine expression of Christianity, which I happen to know from a personal conversation with him.

This is itself a rejection of the Protestant Reformation and in TLJ Kimball says, “we can no longer just regurgitate what we have been taught about homosexuality” (Ibid). Translation: I’m uncomfortable preaching the Word of God on this subject and don’t want to have to tell practicing homosexuals that the LORD God Almighty–their Creator–says, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act” (Leviticus 20:13). And suppose the so very special emerging generationist then says, “That’s why I like Jesus so much because He loves us just as we are.”

Well, another lover of self Rob Bell is already on record preaching this. Well sorry about that chief, the new emerging band of Dan and the Emergent Neo-Gnostics need to back up the whiny wagon for a little Bible lesson here. O yes, I know that is considered a fauxpax in tres trendy emerging circles but it is rather important at this point. You see, Jesus just happens to be the LORD God Almighty in human form (see—John 8:24); so what the LORD God says in the Old Testament, Jesus also says; God cannot change (see—Malachi 3), and so this view of homosexuality is the view held by Christ Jesus the Lord.

But Dan, well, he’s still been searching; O how our gallant man-lover has been doing his best impression of W.C. Fields and searching the Scriptures for any loopholes. Kimball says:

I want to clarify where I stand [that alone could get him drummed out of Emergent]… I have read just about every single book there is out there on this topic, written from both the conservative [read: Biblical] and pro-gay theological perspectives, and I have read the various studies and opinions on each of the Scriptures that mention homosexuality or that have been seen as addressing homosexuality.

I have wrestled with the Scriptures and difficult viewpoints. I studied this issue not being afraid to reexamine all I had ever been taught before and to approach it with an open mind and heart. However, after much prayer and study of the sexual ethics and themes presented overall in Scripture, I have found that I just can’t dismiss that in the Bible homosexual practice is considered a sin (Ibid, emphasis his).

Ok, let’s run this through our emerging bleeding heart translator: Dan tried and tried and tried…*deep breath* and tried to find away around the absolute clarity in God’s inerrant and infallible Word–the Bible–because he truly wanted to see homosexuality differently than Holy Scripture teaches. Noble perhaps, but definitely a position precipitated by Kimball’s man-love. I’ve previously shown in Tony Jones and the Emergent Church: “Christian” Gay is A-Ok that they are already even accepting of practicing homosexuals—who according to Dan Kimball here are in sin—as pastors.

Well Dan, since allegedly Jesus has sent you forth as a pastor-teacher, if it grieves you so much to preach what our great God and only Savior has given His true ministers to preach then perhaps you should seek the “god” of another Emergent “pastor” and “church planter” Jay Bakker:

“The more I follow grace, the more I’m drawn to him [God], the more I’m willing to stand up for people being persecuted,” says Jay today. “This sounds so churchy, but I felt like God spoke to my heart and said ‘[homosexuality] is not a sin.’ ”

But this is what the Lord says — “Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts… The heart is more deceitful than all else, And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” (Proverbs 21:2; Jeremiah 17:9, NASB)
