SEND THE REFORMERS!

Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. (Acts 15:1-2).

In this piece I will look at a few salient questions currently facing the evangelical community. This should be also be of particular interest to Bob Hyatt, an Emergent Church pastor and contributor at the pro-Emergent website E-What, who said a while back that apparently hears God speak “just about everytime the Rev. Silva pens a missive.” Well Bob, be that as it may, I can’t help but wonder; what would emerging Christian agnostics and Emergent Church pastors like Dan Kimball, who struggles with “certitude,” and his inclusive friend Doug Pagitt, an advocate of so-called “Christian” Yoga, have done had they faced the above dilemma? Or for that matter, how would most evangelical pastors period have responded to that invasion into Christ’s Church by enemy forces?

What if Martin Luther had decided, “Well, no sense dividing over doctrine; after all unity is more important than evil men using the Lord’s Church for selfish gain and keeping their congregations ignorant by making sure they haven't access to the Word of God.” Or maybe you are comfortable taking for granted the freedoms you have that were paid for with the blood of these Reformers.

Now consider this, absolutely nothing has changed on the part of the apostate Church of Rome concerning the doctrines which brought about the Reformation in the first place, most notably adding a self-righteous sacramental system to the Gospel. Hmmm, what exactly is the difference in the above Scriptures: 1) These men “added” circumcision (sacrament) as another condition to be saved. Benign enough and yet 2) Paul and Barnabus disputed this particular[reformation]. Brother pastors, I strongly suggest you meditate today on James 3:1.

Could it be this pathetic mess we’ve made of Christ’s Church is related to the unwillingness of Christian leaders today, selfishly enjoying the comforts of their big churches, prosperous ministries, and profitable book deals, to actually take a stand that will cost them something? Men like Living Spiritual Teacher Richard Foster (yep, in spite of my personal warnings to him he’s still there) are actually brought in to teach apostate and heretical “Christian” contemplative mysticism to their allegedly Reformed evangelical churches.

This Quaker, who is absolutely as ecumenical as they come then brings your pastors and youth ministers the teachings of disgusting man-pleasing compromisers like the late Roman Catholic monk Thomas Merton. As I asked on Slice Of Laodicea, where this piece originally appeared, “Have you actually read my article Thomas Merton And The Buddhas taken from his own journal? Follow the link and ask yourself: Do you seriously think that is a Christian testimony?

Beloved, you’d best hear me; don’t you think Christ is desperately trying to tell His nearly comatose Church something with these growing deceptions? Men and women, the time has come for you personally to begin to speak out to leaders at your own local level. To quote my teacher Dr. Walter Martin: “This is Christianity? No, this is madness, and you know what we’ll be if we don't do something about it? Stupid; sinful and guilty.”

For what it’s worth, I risk what’s left of my credibility to point this out; but like Martin before me, I have done my homework and I’ll publicly stand by what I say. And you may consider this my own little version of “95 Theses.” Dear Lord, where are Your Reformers? O God, I beg You, please send us some Reformers!
